Campus Happening and City Orienteering

07.09.2023 - 07.09.2023 |Kaikki

The Campus Happening (Kampusrysäys) starts the academic year of UEF’s students already for the tenth time. The event is held in Joensuu and Kuopio on Thursday 7.9.2023, on the same day as UEF’s Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2023–2024 in Joensuu.

All students, new and continuing, and UEF staff are welcome to attend the Campus Happening! The event gathers our university community to celebrate the beginning of the academic year with live music and different activities.

The Campus Happening works as a kick-off for the City Orienteering (Kaupunkisuunnistus), which begins right after the Happening. In the Orienteering, students will go around their campus city in groups and complete different kinds of tasks given to them at different orienteering points. The evening will end with an after party.

City Orienteering

The City Orienteering (Kaupunkisuunnistus) is an event, where students will go around their campus city’s city centre in groups and complete different kinds of fun tasks given to them by different student associations and ISYY clubs. The starting point for the orienteering is at Carelia grounds from 5 pm onwards. The event is free for new students and continuing students have an opportunity to participate in the event by paying a small fee. The event will culminate in the after party in Las Palmas Kimmel!

Information about the enrollment for different teams can be found below.

We encourage all teams to wear a team outfit according to your chosen theme!

Registration - new students

A tutor (or a student from the freshman group if the tutor doesn’t participate in the Orienteering) will register the group of new students to the event via Kide.app and will pick a suitable starting time for the group. There are two starting times: the first at 5 pm and the second at 5.30 pm. The team will get an orienteering passport, a map, overall patches and wristbands for the after party.

The registration for new students begins on 1 September at 12 pm and will end on 7 September at 12 pm. You can also register a group by emailing ISYY’s Service Planner Niklas Leinonen (Niklas Leinonen, vapaa-aika(at)isyy.fi) when the Kide.app -enrollment is open. The freshman group can include max 10 people + additionally the tutor.

A registered group gets an orienteering passport, a map as well as overall patches and wristbands for the after party for every team member. We recommend that the tutor or one person from the group collects the above-mentioned items for the whole team from ISYY’s office (Haltia building 2nd floor) on week 36 (4 September till 7 September) during our office opening hours. It is also possible to collect the items during the Campus Happening.

Registration - continuing students

Continuing students are able to attend the orienteering with a 30 € registration fee for a group of 6 people (5 €/person). The price includes the orienteering passport and map as well as overall patches and entrance to the after party for every team member. The start for continuing students is at 5.30 pm.

The registration begins in Kide.app on Monday 4 September at 12 pm and will end on Thursday 7 September at 12 pm. Instructions for the orienteering groups on the day of the event

The groups who start their orienteering at 5 pm can pick up their items from the ISYY office starting at 4 pm and groups leaving at 5.30 pm can pick up their items starting at 4.45 pm. All starts for the orienteering are made from the courtyard of the Studentia building.

By the end of the orienteering, the group should count their points and mark the total sum to the orienteering passport. By returning the orienteering passport to a pop-up tent near Albatrossi exterior between 10 and 11 pm your team takes part in both costume and points competitions. In the points competition the team that has gathered the most points wins a VIP table with sparkling wine and snacks to the after party.
