ISYY's Vappu in Joensuu 2024

The highlight of the whole academic year, Vappu (May Day), will bring life to Joensuu by introducing a variety of events organised by ISYY, student associations and clubs.

Traditionally the students’ Vappu celebrations begin as early as in the middle of April and will culminate in the Vappu Eve and its traditions. Vappu Eve Traditions organised by the Student Union include the Vappu Parade that goes from the UEF campus through the city centre to the Ilosaari. Before the Parade, we’ll gather to watch the Capping of the Alkukivet Statue organised by Täky ry and during the Parade ISYY will perform the washing and capping of the Kanavatyttö Statue. The Parade ends at Ilosaari, where we will hear the speech of the Student Union, live music by UEF Choir JOY and the Big Band Orchestra RytmiHäiriköt and for the first time, we'll see the Teekkari dipping in Joensuu.

• at 3 pm Capping of the Alkukivet (organiser: Täky ry)
• at 3.15 Start of the Parade from Carelia to Ilosaari

• at 5.15 pm RytmiHäiriköt

The day before the Vappu Eve, 29 April, ISYY is organising the famous Savo-Karjala Excursion that will be happening at the same time on both campuses. This year the event was sold out in Joensuu and in total five buses will start their route from campus. For the first time, ISYY is also organising the Vappu Olympics on Monday 22 April.
