Continuing students, remember that the deadline for registering as a present student for autumn semester and the academic year is 15 September! All students whose studies aim at a degree must register annually. Bachelor’s, master’s, licentiate and doctoral students are obligated to register for each academic year as being present or absent. You can find instructions for the registration from UEF Kamu. Also degree students, remember to pay the Finnish Student Health Service fee to KELA. More information about the payment is on KELA's website.

Play ISYY's Freshman Bingo and get a free overall patch!

ISYY's Freshman Bingo kick-starts the academic year for our new students. By completing at least one bingo row, you'll get an ISYY FUKSI overall patch and you can take part in the Freshman Bingo Raffle. There is a limited amount of overall patches on both campuses, so it is a good idea to take this chance quickly! You can save the bingo sheet to yourself electronically from ISYY website or you can collect a printed bingo sheet from ISYY office. The Freshman Bingo must be completed by 30 October 2025 at 3 pm!

Join ISYY’s Language Café activities!

Do you want to learn a new language, brush up on your old skills and meet new people or teach your native language? We have the perfect opportunity for you via ISYY’s Language Cafés!

When participating in Language Café activities, you can also earn ECTS credits by attending (1 ECTS) and/or organising a Language Café (2 ECTS) and by submitting a few small assignments to Moodle.

Start a new hobby or find new friends with ISYY's Hobby Buddy service

The service is intended for all students of the University of Eastern Finland who want to make new friends through common hobbies and interests. The process works as follows: a student looking for a Hobby Buddy fills out a form available on ISYY's website, and we will get in touch when a matching buddy is found. You can search for a Hobby Buddy for one or multiple hobbies.

If you are looking for a friend to exercise with, please check out the Sports Buddy Service of SYKETTÄ.

Loan Sports and Hobby Equipment!

Did you know that ISYY has a miscellaneous selection of different equipment to loan for sports and hobby activities? Whether you are going to play badminton, or Finnish yard game Mölkky with you friends, we have the equipment for you.

Come to the ISYY office, explore our assortment, and maybe try something completely new. The choice is yours!

• What? A large selection of equipment for sports and hobby activities. We have e.g. snowshoes, badminton rackets and discs for frisbee golf. The complete list of available equipment and board games can be found on our website.
• Who can loan? All ISYY members and SYKETTÄ users with valid stickers.
• Price? Borrowing is free!
• How long can I keep the equipment? The loan time is one (1) week. Return the equipment to the ISYY office.
• How can I borrow? Come to the ISYY Joensuu or Kuopio office, choose the equipment you want to borrow, and fill in the electronic loan form by reading the QR code at the customer service desk.

ISYY is looking for new representatives for the YUFE Student Forum!

Join the YUFE Student Forum and bring your perspective in the implementation of the YUFE vision. We are seeking specifically one bachelor’s degree student and one PhD researcher. Student-centredness, equality, openness, diversity and inclusivity are at the core of the YUFE identity. Students with all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

As a YUFE Student Representative for UEF you'll:

• co-operate with your fellow student-colleagues and UEF’s YUFE Team
• form a part of the international YUFE Student Forum, ensuring that UEF students’ input is also included
• actively participate in one or more of the YUFE working groups

This is a voluntary non-paid opportunity. However, all expenses due to YUFE (e.g., travel costs) will be covered by your university.

You must register for all ball sports shifts and group classes through the sports calendar on the SYKETTÄ website or via the SYKETTÄ app. All users of the SYKETTÄ services must also have a valid SYKETTÄ membership. Valid memberships include the 2025–2026 academic year stickers and the autumn 2025 group fitness and ball sports stickers.

• Group Exercise Fee: €41 / semester, €71 / academic year
  • Includes instructed group exercise classes, ball sports shifts, gym access, and nutritional services.
• Ball Sports Fee: €23 / semester, €38 / academic year
  • Includes everything except the group exercise classes.
• Monthly Fee: €16 / month

Registration for classes and shifts

Remember that you have to register to all shifts and group classes via the website's sports calendar or the SYKETTÄ Kuopio mobile application.

Registration for group exercise classes, ball shifts (futsal, basketball, volleyball shifts of different levels, floorball and badminton shifts) and regular shifts opens exactly 7 days before the event. For example, if the basketball shift is on Friday 5.9. at 2pm, registration for the shift opens on  Fri 29.9. at 2pm.

Booking a free shift

You can book a free shift at Studentia (sections 1-3). Free shifts can also be booked 7 days before the start of the shift. All people on a free shift must have a valid SYKETTÄ membership.

Gyms

The campus has Studentia and Snellmania gyms, which can be used with a valid SYKETTÄ sticker according to opening hours. The Luola gym is located near campus (Loistekatu 2) and you can go there with a one-time fee by showing your SYKETTÄ sticker (1 €/visit for students with SYKETTÄ membership). Read more about gyms.

Still time to apply for exchange for Spring 2026!

The September calls for applications for outgoing student exchange in the spring semester 2026 is still open!

The application period is open until Monday 15 Sept, 3:00 PM. More information about available options can be found in Kamu’s calls for applications for outgoing student exchange page. For example, students may apply for YUFE Alliance exchanges via OpenYUFE or YUFE Minor.

Applications are submitted in the SoleMOVE system. More information about studying abroad and how to apply is also available from International Mobility Services at international@uef.fi.

YUFE is seeking language tutors!

YUFE organizes free online language cafés for students to enhance oral language skills. The cafés meet online for 90 minutes at a time for 8 weeks, led by native or near-native tutors. Tutors receive YUFE Civic Star recognition and credits for their work. They will also get a training and materials for the task.

YUFE is now looking for tutors for the 2025-2026 academic year Online Language Cafés. If you are a (near) native speaker of Dutch, German, English, French, or Spanish and want to share your language and culture with a diverse group of learners, you could be a great Online Language Café tutor!

How would you improve the Kamu website? Take the survey!

How should the Kamu website be improved to better serve you as a student? UEF, in collaboration with Exove, is running a planning and conceptualization project for the development of Kamu this autumn.

To improve Kamu, we need your feedback and ideas! Please, respond to the survey, which is open from September 8 to 21, 2025. The survey is anonymous and takes about 10 minutes to complete.

Three € 50 gift cards for the UEF online store will be raffled off among those who respond to the survey. Taking part in the raffle is optional. If you wish to take part, your contact information will be required, but we will only use it for the raffle.

ISYY's Movie Club Hyvät Kuvat autumn season begins 11.9.

ISYY's Movie Club called Hyvät Kuvat will start their autumn season on Thursday 11 September. The club presents 11 movies during the autumn semester on Thursdays at 5.30 pm at the Cinema Kino Kuvakukko (adress: Vuorikatu 27).
 
The Club sells seasonal tickets, which gives you access to all of the autumn 2025 movies. It is not possible to buy a seperate tickets. The price for students is 25€ and for others 30€. The tickets are also sold from Kide.app (the ticket must be collected from Kino Kuvakukko before the act) or from the Cinema Kino Kuvakukko (only cast) before every act. you can also buy a seasonal ticket from ISYY's office.

UEF Kuopio Student Choir’s open rehearsals

Would you be our new singer? Come to our open rehearsals on the 9th or 16th of September at 6 pm in SN100-auditorium (Snellmania). 

Our choir has about 30 members and we are a mixed-voice choir. We sing in Finnish and in English for example choir music, movie and musical pieces. All of our rehearsals are held in English.

YhdistysApprot is organized as part of the SYKETTÄ Sports Afternoon on 01.10.2025 from 12:00 to 16:00. A free of charge and alcohol-free appro event for all univeristy students!
Come to YhdistysApprot and get to know many nonprofit organizations operating in the Kuopio and Northern Savonia areas in the form of a classic appro event, but partaking in various activities instead of a pub crawl!
